PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a determination apparatus for automatically determining a field of a document among the hierarchized fields. SOLUTION: The determination apparatus 100 sets a parent-child relation of categories in a hierarchical tree structure based on an inclusion relation between the categories, to determine a field to which the document belongs among the fields represented by the hierarchized category. Specifically, a field relevancy imparting section 155 defines a word included in an undermost category as a core word of a child category, and repeats until all the categories are given the relevance ratio of the field, obtaining the relevance ratio of a field of the core word for each core word of the child category, and obtaining the field relevancy of the core word included in a parent category from the relevance ratio of the field of the core word of the child category, to store the relevance ratio of the field in a core word dictionary 110a along with the core word and category. The field determination section 160 determines a field to which the document belongs based on the relevance ratio of each field for each category to the core word included in the document.
