PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of cutting off a filament current with a low-cost and simple circuit structure, and of achieving energy saving. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device using an inverter circuit for converting power supplied from a power source to high-frequency power to light a connected discharge lamp is provided with: a filament preheating transformer connected in series to a load circuit having a ballast coil and a resonance capacitor for supplying a preheating current for preheating a filament of the discharge lamp connected to a secondary winding based on the supplied high-frequency power; a switch element connected in parallel with a primary winding of the filament preheating transformer for controlling power supply to the filament preheating transformer by switching; and a control circuit for controlling the switching of the switch element to control the supply of the preheating current to the filament.
