PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote monitor and control system capable of performing remote control and monitor easily at a low cost regardless of kinds and specifications of electrical appliances by supplying power from a power line within a duct through a plug to an electrical appliance. SOLUTION: A pair of conductors 3a are disposed as power lines 3 within a wiring duct installed on the surface of the indoor ceiling. A remote monitor and control system comprises a plug 4 attached to the wiring duct 2 and connected to the conductors 3a, electrical appliances such as speaker 11, sensor 12, monitor 13, an illuminator 14 and the like to which power is supplied from the power line 3 through the plug 4, and a terminal device 5 which supervises or controls the electrical appliances. The plug 4 comprises a power line carrier communication means for performing communication, via the power line 3, between an electrical appliance connected to the plug 4 and an electrical appliance connected to the terminal device 5 or any other plug 4.
