PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type phase shifter capable of suppressing variations in insertion losses in phase shift by suppressing a change in an equivalent resistance of a varactor diode due to a change in an inter-terminal capacitance and to provide a control method thereof. SOLUTION: In the reflection type phase shifter including: a hybrid 6 for isolating input output terminals 1 and 2; the varactor diode 7; a DC voltage application terminal 3 used to apply a DC voltage to the varactor diode 7 to change the inter-terminal capacitance of the varactor diode 7; a resistor 9 for combining high frequency signals with phases shifted by the change in the inter-terminal capacitance of the varactor diode so as to suppress a change in a reflection attenuation of the varactor diode due to the change in the inter-terminal capacitance of the high frequency signal input output terminals; and a capacitor 8 for preventing a DC voltage from being applied to the resistor 9, a PIN diode 10 is connected in series with the varactor diode to suppress a change in the equivalent series resistance of the varactor diode due to the change in the inter-terminal capacitance of the varactor diode thereby suppressing variations in the insertion losses of the phase shifter.
