PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a communication cost and communication time when carrying out facsimile transmission of image data stored in a server or the like. SOLUTION: The personal computer 4 specifies resolution of a document (image data 203) being an object of PC-FAX transmission. The information is transmitted to a network facsimile machine 2 through a LAN 3. The network facsimile machine 2 obtains the specified image data 203 from an image DB 202. When the resolution of the image data 203 stored in the image DB 202 is higher than the resolution specified by the personal computer 4, the resolution of the image data 203 is converted into the specified resolution. When the resolution of the image data 203 stored in the image DB 202 is lower than the resolution specified by the personal computer 4, the resolution of the image data 203 is maintained (step S4).
