The bobbin being wound is held between a pair of bars 2, 3 that bias the bobbin against a friction drive roller 22. When the package is fully wound the bars 2, 3 will have moved the package 21 to the setting indicated in broken lines in Fig. 2, whereafter they are moved apart to doff the wound bobbin. The bars 2, 3 are then swung back towards the drive roller 22 and a swivel arm 15, carrying reserve bobbins 14, is raised to present a fresh bobbin to the bars 2, 3. The bars 2, 3 are then moved towards each other to grip the fresh bobbin. The normal traverse of the material being wound is over the path H, Fig. 3, but at the start of each winding operation the sliver guide 27 moves temporarily to the setting 28 such that the sliver to be wound is snagged between the bobbin 14 and a bobbin supporting roller 13 on arm 3. |
