An apparatus and a method for controlling the brightness of a backlight according to the remaining amount of a battery are provided to optimally use the limited power supplied by the battery and to enhance the work efficiency of users. A remaining amount measuring member measures the remaining amount of a battery(41) for supplying power to a backlight. A backlight driving member drives the backlight with a predetermined brightness level. A control member(43) applies a control signal such as a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal to the backlight driving member(44). The remaining amount measuring member measures the remaining amount of the battery on the basis of the voltage of the battery. When the remaining amount of the battery is 50%, the brightness level of the backlight is 7. When the remaining amount of the battery is 40%, the brightness level of the backlight is 4. When the remaining amount of the battery is 30%, the brightness level of the backlight is 2. |
