A rotor for use in a line start permanent magnet synchronous motor is provided to adjust distances between permanent magnets and conductors by selectively mounting permanent magnets into magnet mounting holes arranged along radial directions of a rotor core. A rotor core(110) has a shaft hole(111) at a central portion, and plural conductor mounting holes formed along a circumferential portion. Plural conductors(114) are inserted into the conductor mounting holes. Plural magnet mounting holes(112) are arranged around the shaft hole along at least one radial direction from the shaft hole. Plural permanent magnets are selectively mounted into the corresponding magnet mounting hole. The rotor core is formed by compressing soft magnetic powder.
