A method and a system for providing an image message service informing about subscription of a video call service are provided to prevent unnecessary charging and a waste of time generated as a recording is performed. A mobile terminal(110) provides an image message service and a video call service. A video call management server(130) provides the video call service to the mobile terminal and manages subscription of the mobile terminal to the video call service. An image message management server(140) provides the image message service to the mobile terminal. In this case, before recording an image message, the image message management server determines whether the other party has been subscribed to the video call service, and only when the other party has been subscribed to the video call service, the image message management server records, checks, stores and transmits the image message.
