An apparatus and a method for informing the preheating time of a microwave oven is provided to display a time necessary for preheating by detecting the temperature of the interior of a cooking chamber. An apparatus for informing the preheating time of a microwave oven includes a key input section(20), a temperature detection section(60), a grill heater(40), a memory section(50), a display section(70), and a microcomputer(10). If a user set a set temperature key signal through a temperature setting key after a preheating key signal is input from the key input section, the microcomputer detects the temperature of the interior of the cooking chamber from the temperature detection section and reads the preheating time from the memory section. The microcomputer displays the preheating time through the display section and performs a preheating operation by driving the grill heater.
