Honeycomb body production includes forming a honeycomb structure (3), inserting the honeycomb structure into a housing (1), and performing heat treatment on the honeycomb structure. Outer regions of the housing are contacted with a molding during insertion or heat treatment step. A desired outer contour (6) of the housing is reproduced with contact faces of the molding. Independent claims are included for: (1) a molding of high-temperature resistant and corrosion resistant metal for use in producing a honeycomb body; and (2) an exhaust gas treatment unit.
