An image forming apparatus and a method for notifying replacement time of consumption goods in the image forming apparatus are provided to display a lack message of the consumption goods and a message for asking replacement of the consumption goods. A control part(260) determines remaining durability of consumption goods and adaptively decides time when help information about replacement of the consumption goods has to be outputted in accordance with the remaining durability of consumption goods. A print engine part(270) prints the help information at the determined time. The control part determines whether an error occurs in an image forming apparatus(200). When the error occurs, the print engine part prints help information of the error.
