[Also in Division C7] A metal article of, e.g., Pt or Pt alloy, is formed by spraying the metal in droplet form on to a target, which may be cooled, to form a deposit, removing the deposit, and then mechanically working it. In examples cast ingots are rolled or reduced to wire, which is flame sprayed to form a further ingot. The spraying is performed at high speed into a cold, heavy mould. The ingot may then be rolled into sheet, rod or wire. Metal made by the method of the invention has a fine grain size and may be used in the manufacture of spinnerettes and the like. |
