A method for changing a recording frame rate in a DVR(Digital Video Recorder) and a reproduction method are provided to automatically change the recording frame rate according to a motion quantity of an object in a monitoring image photographed by a monitoring camera, record the changed image of the object, and reproduce the recorded image. A microcomputer detects a motion quantity of an object in a monitoring image(S10-S13). The microcomputer variably adjusts a recording frame rate of a monitoring image according to the detected motion quantity(S14-S17). The microcomputer detects the motion quantity of the object on the basis of a motion vector in the monitoring image. The microcomputer increases the recording frame rate of the monitoring image in response to the detected motion quantity.
