Patterning device for sheet material. Fabric, non-woven sheet, warps, tows etc. are decorated by applying dyestuff which migrates from cool to hot areas, and locally heating areas of the fabric etc. to cause such migration. The temp. of the heating step is pref. between 400 and 1000 degrees F applied for between 1/2 and 5 secs. The heating pattern is pref. on the periphery of a heated roller.
