A method and a system for providing a location information service of a shadow area in a mobile communication system are provided to allow a user to accurately recognize a location of the other party located in a shadow area. The first mobile terminal(110) transmits a location information message to recognize a location of a different mobile terminal. A mobile communication network(120) includes an SMSC(Short Message Service Center)(140) and an LBS(Location Based Service) server(134) and provides a short message service and a location-based service. An RF unit(150) is installed at a shadow area and stores shadow area location information, and when the RF unit(150) receives a location information request signal, it transmits the shadow area location information. The second mobile terminal(112) determines whether an RF signal has been received from the RF unit(150), and when the RF signal has been received, the second mobile terminal(112) determines whether providing of location information has been set. When providing of location information has been set, the second mobile terminal(112) transmits the location information request signal to the RF unit(150), receives the shadow area location information, and transmits a location area location information providing message to the first mobile terminal(110).
