The production of brown fume during refining is reduced in an O2 blowing process in which the O2 gas current is surrounded by an endothermic reaction dissociable gas envelope by adding a similar gas to the central O2 supply as a cooling agent. The tuyere specif. comprises three coaxial tubes and has regulating means for the supply of the cooling/protective gas to the two outer tubes.
