A test tube, e.g. of polypropylene, has, integral with its base 4, a projection which preferably has one or two sharp edges 7, 7' radially spaced from the inner wall of the test tube so that upon rotation of a holder (not shown) in which the test tube is fixed by means of pairs of pegs 9, 10, any liquid within the test tube is mixed by turbulence. The holder may be given a motion of rotary reciprocation at 5-10 c/sec. through an amplitude of 80 degrees.
