A skin condition improving composition comprising an extract of Vaccinium uliginosum is provided to inhibit and scavenge reactive oxygen species which are produced in skin tissue when UV is applied to the skin, effectively suppress tyrosinase activity to inhibit the production of melanin in melanin cells, suppress the secretion of cytokines in keratinocytes, promote the production of procollagen, and inhibit the decomposition of collagen, thereby being useful to prevent the photo-aging of the skin, caused by ultraviolet radiation, and improving skin whitening and wrinkle conditions. The skin condition improving composition comprises an extract of Vaccinium uliginosum as an effective ingredient and has skin whitening and wrinkle improving effects. The cosmetic composition comprises the skin condition improving composition and cosmetic additives. The cosmetic composition further comprises at least one ingredient selected from the group consisting of arbutin, kojic acid, a Broussonetia extract, 3-ethoxy ascorbic acid, a licorice extract, and a mixture thereof. The method for preparing an extract of Vaccinium ulginosum comprises the steps of: (a) adding water or alcohol as a solvent into the fruit or leaf of Vaccinium ulginosum to obtain a Vaccinium ulginosum extract; (b) filtering the Vaccinium ulginosum extract obtained from the step(a) and separating the supernatant from the filtrate; and (c) concentrating the supernatant separated from the second step. |
