A method for checking an error of a set-top-box is provided to detect the cause of a problem that a scrambled channel is not descrambled by a set-top-box through error check. The size of a smart card is checked when the smart card is inserted into a set-top-box having a CAS(Conditional Access System) function(S101). When the size of the smart card is not checked, an error of a smart card interface is recognized and displayed(S107). When the size of the smart card is normally checked, data and address of the smart card are read(S105). When the data and address of the smart card are not read, an error of the smart card is recognized and displayed(S109).
