In a reclining chair in which the back rest, seat and leg rest are interlinked for relative movement, the leg rest is extended through the medium of a two armed lever 74 pivoted to the seat at 76 and connected with a linkage pivoted to the seat frame. The longer arm of lever 74 is connected to the foot rest 82 by link 80, while the shorter arm is connected by drive link 70 to a guide plate 56, pivoted at 58 to the side frame of the chair. A link 88 is connected between the drive link 70 and a link 92 pivoted to the foot rest and to the longer arm of lever 74. Pivoted at 50 to the seat and at 54 to the guide plate 56 is a control link 52 having a projection 53 designed to contact an inward extension of the pivot 58. The guide plate is biased against a stop 59 in the side frame of the chair by a spring 62. A second stop 59a is provided. In use, the rearward motion of the tilting back rest is transmitted to the seat and to the control link 52 which turns about the pivot 54 towards the stop on pivot 58. The guide plate is held against the stop 59 by spring 62 and the motion of the seat against the stationary drive link 70 causes a partial extension of the leg rest. At an intermediate position of the back rest the extension 53 on control link 52 abuts the stop on pivot 58 and further movement of the back rest causes the link 52 to move the guide plate 56 about pivot 58 against the action of spring 62 until stop 59a is reached. This causes the full extension of leg rest 82. |
