Provided is an electrochemical device to improve stability in case of overcharge and to minimize deterioration of performance after overcharge. The electrochemical device comprises a positive electrode; a negative electrode; and an electrolyte solution, wherein the electrolyte solution comprises a reversible compound having a reduction potential lower than the potential of a negative electrode. Preferably, the reversible compound consumes overcharge current by the reversible redox shuttle comprising the reduction at a negative electrode and the oxidation of a positive electrode, and has an electronegativity of 2.0 or less.
