An active matrix organic EL(Electro-Luminescence) device and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce stress of a driving transistor by applying a recovery signal and data of different polarities to a recovery line and a data line, respectively. An active matrix organic EL device includes a data line(Dm), a scan line(Sn), a recovery line(Rn), an organic EL diode(OLED), a switching transistor(T1), a driving transistor(T2), and a capacitor(C). The organic EL diode receives a source voltage(VDD). The switching transistor, which is switched by a scan signal from the scan line, controls output of data from the data line. The driving transistor, which is controlled by a recovery signal from the recovery line and an output from the switching transistor, drives the organic EL diode. The capacitor is configured between the recovery line and the driving transistor.
