A method for setting up a data hiding function in a mobile communication terminal and an apparatus thereof are provided to simply prevent data about a user of the mobile communication terminal from flowing out or opening to other person by converting a current operating mode into a privacy mode through a simple key operation. An apparatus for setting up a data hiding function in a mobile communication terminal comprises a communication unit(110), a storage unit(130), a key inputting unit(140), a controller(150) and a display unit(160). The communication unit(110) transmits or receives data with hiding function setup information. The storage unit(130) stores a list of data including the data set through the hiding function and the hiding function setup information. The key inputting unit(140) enables a user to input a mode conversion signal for selectively displaying the data according to an operation mode. The controller(150) extracts the list of data for discriminating each operation mode and displaying the list of data according to each operation mode. The display unit displays the list of data extracted in accordance with each operation mode.
