Preparation of 1,3- and 1,4-phenylenebisoxazoline (I) comprises reaction of aromatic dinitrile compound (II) with an amino alcohol compound (III) in the presence of zinc-2-ethylhexanoate as catalyst. Preparation of 1,3- and 1,4-phenylenebisoxazoline of formula (I) comprises reaction of aromatic dinitrile compound of formula (II) with amino alcohol compound (III) of formula (H 2N-C(R 1)(R 2)-C(R 3)(R 4)-OH) in the presence of zinc-2-ethylhexanoate as catalyst.
