A steering column is provided to destroy a steering column by a collapse cylinder, to secure the distance between a steering wheel and a human body, and to minimize the shock applied to a human body. A cylindrical steering column(1) for connecting a steering wheel(3) having an air bag(2) built-in and a steering shaft(4) for transmitting steering force to the steering device of a steering apparatus to each other is provided. A destruction cylinder(7) having an explosive exploded by the control of an ACU built-in is provided on one side of the steering column. The steering column of the steering apparatus is controlled by the ACU when the vehicle collides with an object so that the air-bag is emitted and that the explosive is exploded to destroy the destruction cylinder. Therefore, the length of the steering column is reduced and the steering wheel moves to the steering shaft to increase the distance between the steering wheel and the human body and to increase the shock absorption space of the air-bag. Therefore, the shock applied to the human body is significantly absorbed by the air-bag to be offset so that the damage of the body caused by the shock is reduced.
