A recording control method of an HDD(Hard Disk Drive) and a device appropriate therefor are provided to be capable of performing an unloading process only after recording for a recorded sector is completed if a free fall occurs, thereby preventing a read error from being generated later. An HDD initiates a recording mode according to a command received from a host. The HDD locates a head to a target disk, a target track, and a target sector, and records data(S604). The HDD decides whether a free fall is detected(S606). If so, the HDD waits until recording for a recorded sector is completed(S630). If the recording is completed, the HDD temporarily stops the recording mode(S610) and performs an unloading process(S612). The HDD waits until the free fall state is finished(S614), and conducts a loading process(S616) and then resumes a recording process(S618).
