A vertical belt storage system (1) comprising a supporting structure for a storage car (4) provided with a counterweight (18) which can be raised and lowered like a lifting blo ck and fitted with deflection pulleys (7) which interact with base-side stationary deflection pulleys (8) and deflect and guide an incoming and outgoing belt (9). The inventive system has a compact design when the supporting structure is embodied as a column (2) and the storage car (4) is designed as a discharging vehicle moving on an outer surface (3) thereof.
