A multiaxially stitched base material for reinforcing which has a plurality of sheets each having a plurality of carbon fiber yarns in a tow form are arranged in parallel with one another which are jointed in one piece with stitch yarns in the state of a laminate formed in a manner such that the directions of arrangement of carbon fibers of respective sheets have differe nt angles for a given direction, wherein the above carbon fiber yarns in a tow form have a fineness in the range of 1,200 to 17,000 Tex, the pitch of the above arrangement of carbon fibers is 8 to 60 mm, and each of the carbon fibers is spread so as to have a yarn width corresponding to the above pitch of arrangement, resulting in leaving substantially no interstice between the carbon fibers. A plurality of carbon fiber yarns supplied for forming a shee t are spread in their width by contacting a plurality of rolls respectively an d undergoing bending.
