A decoder, a control method, and a program are provided to reduce the size of the decoder for an LDPC(Low Density Parity Check) code. A decoder includes a message operation unit(171), memory units(104,105), and a controller(174). The message operation unit(171) performs a variable node operation or check node operation for decoding LDPC code by using supplied messages and outputs a message obtaining a result of the operations. The memory unit(104,105) memorizes the message. The controller(174) inputs the message outputted from the operation unit(171) to the memory units(104,105), reads the same message as the message used for the operation in the message operation unit(171) two times, and supplies the message to the message operation unit(171).
