A wireless modem and a mobile terminal containing the same are provided to achieve wireless Internet access at high speed by automatically executing a reconnection through a terminal emulator, without a user's intervention, even though a communication connection is disconnected due to deterioration in a communication environment. A wireless modem(70) comprises an interface part(72), an information storage part(78), a terminal emulator(76), and a RAS(Remote Access Server) emulator(74). The interface part(72) transmits and receives data with a subscriber terminal(60). The information storage part(78) stores the RAS access and subscriber authentication information transmitted through the interface part(72). The terminal emulator(76) processes subscriber authentication procedures with a circuit-connected RAS(80) using the stored information, receives setup information to set up a data channel according to a processing result, stores it in the information storage part(78), and transits to a data packet transmit/receive state. The RAS emulator(74), if a wireless Internet access request is made from the subscriber terminal(60), processes subscriber authentication procedures with the subscriber terminal(60) and transmits the data channel setup information, stored in the information storage part(78), to the subscriber terminal(60), so that the subscriber terminal(60) can transit to a data packet transmit/receive state.
