A mobile communication terminal reducing consumption current in an idle state and a system clock generating method thereof are provided to reduce the consumption of a battery and to lengthen an idling capability time by controlling a wake duration time of a system clock according to a wireless electric wave environment. A mobile communication terminal reducing consumption current in an idle state comprises an RF receiver(10), a baseband(20), a clock controller(30) and a clock generator(40). The RF receiver(10) receives paging information from a base station. The baseband(20) calculates a paging cycle by using the paging information forwarded by the RF receiver(10), and detects information on neighbor cells. The clock controller(30) generates and outputs a clock control signal which controls generation of the system clock and a wake time of the system clock according the paging cycle and the information on the neighbor cell. The clock generator(40) generates the system clock according to the clock control signal and outputs the system clock to the RF receiver(10) and the baseband(20).
