A mobile terminal for transmitting XML-type data and a method thereof are provided to easily receive desired data from a mobile terminal, located in a remote place, by transmitting an XML-type SMS message to the remote mobile terminal in order to obtain the desired data. If a data request message is received from a remote mobile terminal, a mobile terminal judges whether the data request message contains a certain identification tag(102,103). In case an identification tag exists in the data request message, the mobile terminal executes user authentication for a password contained in the data request message(104,105). In case the user authentication is permitted, the mobile terminal identifies the request data contained in the data request message(106). Then the mobile terminal extracts the identified request data from a storage unit. Finally the mobile terminal transmits a data message to the remote mobile terminal, including the extracted request data(107).
