A method for receiving broadcast contents using a short message is provided to enable a user to normally send a broadcast contents reception request message to a contents provider server using a short message in case the user fails in transmitting the broadcast contents reception request message through a reverse channel using TCP/IP. A user of a mobile terminal transmits a broadcast contents reception request message to a contents provider server through a reverse channel in order to receive certain broadcast contents(S20). The mobile terminal judges whether the broadcast contents reception request message has been successfully transmitted to the contents provider server(S21). In case a response message is not received from the contents provider server, the mobile terminal creates a short message containing the information required to receive the broadcast contents and transmits it to an SMS server(S22). The SMS server forwards the short message to the contents provider server(S23). Receiving the short message, the contents provider server transmits a response message to the SMS server. The SMS server delivers the response message to the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal, receiving the response message, analyzes it and judges whether the broadcast contents reception request has been successfully authenticated(S24,S25). If so, a CAS(Conditional Access System) chip is notified that the reception of the broadcast contents has been authenticated, based on the authentication information contained in the response message(S26). The mobile terminal receives and regenerates the broadcast contents through a broadcasting satellite(S27).
