A method for displaying DivX(Digital Video eXpress) file information in a DVD(Digital Versatile Disk) player is provided to allow a user to accurately know the play impossible cause of a play impossible DivX file by displaying file information such as video and audio codecs of the corresponding DivX file with respect to the play impossible DivX file and displaying whether it is possible to support the DivX file on a screen. A microcomputer receives a play request for a specific DivX file from a user(S200-S204). The microcomputer checks information of the requested DivX file, and checks whether the requested DivX file is a playable file(S206,S208). When the requested DivX file is a play impossible file, the microcomputer informs that the requested DivX file is a DivX file of a format which is not supported(S212). The microcomputer displays detailed file information of the play impossible DivX file(S214).
