1278424 Methanation catalysts CATALYSTS & CHEMICALS Inc 22 July 1969 [26 July 1968] 36673/69 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A catalyst precursor in the form of porous spheres which on calcination and reduction promotes reactions between carbon oxides and hydrogen to form methane comprises 5-40% NiO, 15-75% of a binder which is either an activated transition alumina, e.g. rho or eta alumina, or a calcium silicater or aluminate cement or mixture of these cements and 0-75% alumina other than the transition alumina. The ingredients are tumbled and sprayed with water to form spheres and parameters such as bulk densities, specific gravity, ratios of pore volumes to sphere volume, &c, are fixed within specified ranges by adjusting the proportion of water to obtain a loss of 20-40% when the spheres are ignited to be rendered porous. |
