<p>1278331 Chance forecasting apparatus J M S FITE 30 June 1969 [4 July 1968] 32970/69 Heading A6H A chance apparatus for forecasting the results of matches e.g. of football for use in pools or similar betting games comprises a frame housing at least one vertically rotatable column composed of a series of superposed freely rotatable discs 42 supported by a central shaft 27 having an end portion disposed outside the frame sustaining thereon a rotatable perforated cap 50 which alternately obscures and reveals light from a source 52 on the frame, this shaft having at its lower end a toothed crown 26 for engagement with a similar one on a driving mechanism, a series of paired signs (indicating the forecasted results) being inscribed on the outside of the rotatable discs said discs bearing on a series of further discs 36 integral with the central shaft. Both the fixed discs and those which are freely rotatable may carry a set of radially distributed magnets 40 so disposed as to translate the rotary movement from the fixed discs to the free discs on rotation of the central shaft and further to bring the free discs to rest when the central shaft stops rotating. The freely rotating discs each have an adjustable screening element 46, also carrying paired signs (and two single ones at its ends), which may be arranged to cover half the paired signs on any free disc hence altering the proportion of paired signs on the disc. At least one rotatable disc is further enclosed by a concentric ring 33 having a series of signs and perforations. The whole revolving unit may be enclosed by a frame comprising two platforms joined by strips one of which is perforated allowing the forecast to be viewed through a window in the face of machine. The revolving unit may be turned by a handle outside the machine which operates a bevel gear via a return mechanism utilising a weighted wheel and a sliding bolt. The frame 1 has spaces 55 wherein the names of the participating teams may be placed. The apparatus is coin-freed.</p> |
