The device has an emitter (3) for each of several eggs (9) to be candled and comprising a coherent laser source forming a coherent optical beam (31) in direction of the egg. The emitters are disposed along a path of a conveyor unit (1) that transports egg incubation trays (2). A receiving unit (4) receives light flow passing across the egg. A computer processing unit (7) processes the light flow received by the receiving unit for determining fertilized and green eggs.
