An apparatus and a method for receiving a DMB(digital multimedia broadcasting) service in a mobile terminal are provided to maintain the superior reception performance of an antenna by allowing a user to install an external antenna when the use of the external antenna enhances the reception performance of the antenna. At least one DMB signal is received. It is determined whether a DMB signal directly received from a satellite exists(310). The frequencies of the reception of the satellite signals are calculated for a predetermined time interval if a signal received from the satellite exists(320). A message is notified to a user to persuade the detachment of an external antenna when the frequencies of the reception of the satellite signals are lower than a threshold value(340).
