摘要 <p>#CMT# #/CMT# The production of a composite material having a mixture of noble metal (I) (e.g. ruthenium, rhodium, iridium, silver, gold, palladium, platinum, nickel or copper) and oxides of rare earth metal (e.g. lanthanum, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium or yttrium) comprises making a metal alloy using (I) and the rare metal, where the alloy has a crystallized phase of a rare earth metal composition at greater than 10 at..% and a noble metal composition at 25-75 at..%; and oxidizing the alloy. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is included for a composite material comprising the mixture. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The composite material is used as a catalyst and to make non-linear optical instruments and ceramic glass (claimed), particularly sintered ceramics. The composite material is also used to make magnetic and metallurgical powder. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The composite material has good catalytic activity. #CMT#INORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Process: The process further comprises: adding a transition metal during the alloy preparation step; heat treatment of the metal alloy at 200-1000[deg]C under inert or reducing atmosphere and crushing of alloy metal between preparation and oxidation steps; a mechanical or ultrasonic crushing of the obtained powders; and heat treatment of the particles to adjust the size of the obtained particles. The rare earth metal is partially replaced by an element of actinide family e.g., actinium, thorium or protactinium. The process is carried out at >= 50[deg]C under inert or reducing atmosphere by fusion of the pure elements, metallurgical powders or layers heated at >= 200[deg]C or by mechanical synthesis of the pure elements or alloys. The oxidation is carried out = 800[deg]C or at ambient temperature in the presence of air. Preferred Components: The transition metal is titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, tellurium, rhenium, zinc, cadmium, mercury, iron, cobalt or osmium. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Gold-cerium alloy was crushed and oxidized in the presence of air and 60% humidity at 60[deg]C to form a gold-cerium oxide composite material.</p>
