The device (1) has a longitudinal wall (2) to separate an exhaust gas, at its input, between parallel treatment paths (3, 4) reunited at an output towards an exhaust (6). The path (3) directs the gas towards the exhaust, and the path (4) carries a gas spur (7) and an orientation valve (9) to selectively orient the gas in the direction of an exhaust gas recirculation loop (8) or the exhaust. The latter path has catalytic treatment units (12, 13) respectively arranged in upstream and downstream of the valve, where one unit is loaded lesser than a catalytic treatment unit of the former path.
