PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of efficiently manufacturing an organic EL element having a high light emission efficiency and a high luminance, and to provide an organic EL element obtained by the manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The organic EL element includes an organic EL compound layer sandwiched with a positive electrode layer and a negative electrode layer. The method of manufacturing the EL element comprises a process for forming the positive electrode layer on a first substrate, a process for forming the negative electrode layer on a second substrate, a process for forming the organic EL compound layer on the positive electrode layer and/or the negative electrode layer, and a process for carrying out a thermocompression bonding of the positive electrode layer formed on the first substrate and the negative layer formed on the second substrate through the organic EL compound layer.
