PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head device using a detection element to which a current is given in a film thickness direction, having lower and upper shielding layers as current paths and capable of reducing noise by forming the lower and the upper shielding layers in small and simple shapes. SOLUTION: The lower shielding layer 21 is flatly formed, a front part 28a of the upper shielding layer 28 approaches the lower shielding layer 21 and a rear part 28c of the upper shielding layer 28 is separated from the lower shielding layer 21. A lower conductive electrode 24 and an upper conductive electrode 26 are disposed between the lower shielding layer 21 and the upper shielding layer 28, the lower conductive electrode 24 and the lower shielding layer 21 are conducted and the upper conductive electrode 26 and the upper shielding layer 28 are conducted. The lower and the upper shielding layers 21 and 28 can be formed in a small area and in a simple shape by holding the conductive electrodes 24 and 26 between the shielding layers.
