PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scalable and efficient information retrieval method. SOLUTION: This information retrieval method applied to an information retrieval system having communication devices each holding information showing whereabouts and contents or the like of information provided by a terminal device that is a provision source of service, or service information that is information for using the information, divided into groups on the basis of a prescribed condition includes: an attribute information acquisition process for acquiring attribute information for identifying the service information included in information retrieval requirement requiring retrieval of the service information; a first retrieval process for retrieving the group to which the communication device holding the objective service information on the basis of the attribute information acquired in the attribute information acquisition process; a requirement transfer process for transferring the information retrieval requirement to the representative communication device of the group that is a retrieval result of the first retrieval process; and a second retrieval process for receiving the information retrieval requirement transferred in the requirement transfer process when itself is the representative communication device, and retrieving the objective service information inside its own group.
