PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centering technique for the molding die of a glass optical element capable of achieving high accuracy molding process when molding the optical element by pressing a thermally softened glass material using the first and second dies facing each other. SOLUTION: The device for achieving the centering technique is provided, as means, with: a first die 50 having a first curved molding face 52 for molding the first surface of the glass optical element; a second die 60 having a second curved molding face 62 for molding the second surface thereof; a levelness detection mechanism 20 for outputting the first and second beams (B1) and (B2) which make their optical axes coincide with each other to go straight to the direction reverse to each other; a first fixed base 30 for fixing the first die 50; a second fixed base 40 for fixing the second die 60; a first position-adjustment mechanism 80a for adjusting the horizontal position of the first die 50; and a second position-adjustment mechanism 80b for doing the same adjustment as above with respect to the second die 60.
