PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an engine capable of improving gear change response further. SOLUTION: An electronic control device 51 executes torque control at a time of gear change in which engine torque during gear change is dropped by adjustment of suction air quantity based on control of opening of a throttle and lift of a suction valve 19 and the dropped engine torque is increased when gear change is completed. In execution of the torque control at a time of gear change, the electronic control device 51 temporally makes opening of the throttle after completion of gear change greater than a control target value corresponding to accelerator operation quantity.
