<p>Heat exchangers for viscous material tending to deposit a layer of solid of continuously increasing thickness on the heat transmitting surfaces, e.g. mixtures contg. edible oils and fats used for margarine prodn., the exchanger having a number of coaxial chambers with heat transmitting walls, each contg. a rotating disc mounted on a common drive shaft, the discs and chambers being so designed that the materials to be cooled which flow round the discs have a constant speed or constant pressure in a radial direction, incorporating the improvement whereby the lateral walls of the chambers are plane while the discs are conical and have a number of recesses on each face, extending radially or at a pre-determined angle to the radius of the disc, with a scraper mounted in each recess and pivoting round an axis parallel to the lateral walls of the chamber, for scraping these walls.</p> |
