PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the occurrence of screen noise which is caused by variations in a dark current between the light reception pixels of a solid-state image pickup element.
SOLUTION: A potential well is moved and information charge is stored simultaneously in an exposure period E succeeding to completion time t2 of electronic shutter operation. In a frame-transfer CCD image sensor in which transfer electrodes G1-G3 to which transfer clocks ϕi1-ϕi3 are applied are arranged for each light reception pixel, the potential well is formed below the G2 only for a period α when the exposure period E is started. After that, the potential wells are formed successively below G1, G2, and G3 for periods 2α, α, and 2α, respectively. More specifically, the dark current corresponding to the same period is mixed into the information charge stored in each pixel below each of G1-G3, thus averaging the dark current in the pixel, and reducing the variations of the dark current between the pixels.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
