PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing apparatus, capable of externally transferring data other than a MPEG-TS recorded on a tape by MPEG format. SOLUTION: An ECC1/2 processing section 18 applies error correction to inner and outer codes of DV audio data, an MPEG stream, and sub codes respectively read from a DV audio area, a DV video area, and a sub-code area of a tape, and a Pro-HD processing block 30 arranges the DV audio data, the MPEG stream, and the sub-codes, respectively read from the DV audio area, the DV video area, and the sub code area, and the result of the correction processing into DIF packets and outputs the DIF packets to the outside in the DIF format.
