PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for monitoring the speed of a traveling body 2 which travels on a traveling channel 1. SOLUTION: This system for monitoring the speed of the traveling body 2 which travels on the traveling channel 1 has two magnetic generation means 4, 5 arranged at a predetermined interval along the traveling channel 1. A magnetic detection means 3, a speed determination means 11 and a notifying means 16 are provided to the traveling body 2. The magnetic detection means 3 sequentially detects the locations of the two magnetic generation means 4, 5 during the traveling body's traveling. The speed determination means 11 determines excess of a limiting speed when the time difference value of the detected values is smaller than a predetermined time difference value, and it outputs a limiting speed excess signal to the notifying means 16.
